Ayla washing station, located in Ethiopia’s Sidama Zone, is one of Testi Specialty Coffee’s most renowned sites, known for producing highly floral coffees. Founded by Faysel Abdosh in 2009, the station reflects his passion for Ethiopian coffee and family heritage, with his sons and nephew now involved in the business.

Situated at 1,950m altitude near the Bonera River, Ayla processes both washed and natural coffees, with this specific lot coming from the Bombe kebele. Around 900 independent farmers supply coffee cherries to the station, growing them at high elevations of 1,950–2,150m, where cool conditions allow slow cherry ripening and create sweeter, more complex flavours.

Most farmers cultivate coffee organically on small farms alongside food crops under native shade trees. Coffee is their main source of income, and farmers receive payments at delivery plus additional premiums above government-set market prices, including a later bonus based on the coffee’s sale value.
