Founded in the mid 19th century near Ataco, El Carmen is a Salvadoran specialty coffee estate now run by fourth generation producer Fernando Alfaro. The family helped establish it as one of El Salvador’s leading coffee exporters, with meticulous attention to quality and lot traceability from harvest to export.
Coffee grows under approximately 60% shade to encourage even ripening. Before the rainy season, shade trees are pruned to around 40% cover, allowing more light to support new foliage growth.
