Aquiares, meaning “land between rivers” in the Huetar indigenous language, is Costa Rica’s largest coffee farm and home to a community of 1,800 people. Founded in 1890 on the slopes of Turrialba volcano, the estate was transformed by Alfonso Robelo, who helped workers become homeowners and established a model of sustainable, equitable coffee production. Today, his son Diego leads its specialty coffee development through new varieties and innovative processing, alongside carbon reduction efforts, protected wildlife corridors, and environmental research.

Esperanza is a rare F1 hybrid of Sarchimor T-5296 and wild Ethiopian ET25, prized for its high yields, rust resistance, and complex, elegant cup profile. Aquiares is one of the few farms cultivating it commercially.

This African washed lot was mechanically washed and dried on raised beds in a solar dryer for 18-24 days.
