Gitesi Coffee - A Story of Community and Innovation

Founded by Alexis Gahizi and now led by his son Aimé, Gitesi Coffee has grown beyond coffee production to become a vital supporter of its local community in Rwanda's Karongi District.

Community Impact:
All of Gitesi's employees and partner farmers are neighbors to the washing station, fostering strong collaboration. The company provides financial literacy training, helps farmers cultivate alternative crops for off-season income, and runs a program that gifts cows to partner farmers to diversify their livelihoods.

Environmental Innovation:
Aimé, a civil engineer by training, has developed a custom filtration system to purify wastewater from coffee washing and created a composting system using worms to break down cherry pulp, producing nutrient-rich compost that enhances coffee plant growth.
